Research

My research explores trans histories, archives, film and popular culture, affect, and memory. I am interested in how we make sense of the past, how memory, media, and cultural production shape our understandings of trans lives across time and place, and how these histories inform the ways we imagine community, solidarity, and more just futures today.

Current Research Projects

I am currently working on several projects:

  • a research project on the history of trans Holocaust memory, antifascism, and the affective afterlives of persecution

  • a book tentatively titled “Hunger for History: Contested Memories, Trans Activism, and the Construction of a Useable Past” on the ways in which trans activists and cultural producers imagine the past in order to create more livable lives

  • a co-edited special issue on trans German studies together with Dr. Cedar Lensing-Sharp

  • an English translation of my monograph Trans* Geschichten der Moderne

  • a chapter on early trans cinema for an edited volume on Queer Cinema Austria
